Can you dance here?
Maybe. Some people dance, but it is not a dance event (party dancing).
- Party dancing Dance however you like to a band or DJ, like at a club, bar or wedding. No steps or partner needed.
Why we think so
- Full bands play on Friday and Saturday nights. The basement has hosted DJ dance nights, such as the Velvet Fang goth dance club. We could not confirm how much room there is to dance on band nights.
- A newer alt-rock and grunge cover band. Its daytime street-fair and fundraiser sets are more for listening; night shows in bars may get some freestyle dancing. We found no report of crowds dancing at its shows.
How we checked (6 sources)
- openjamevents.com (opens in a new tab): Venue guide: two floors, a patio, full bands on Friday and Saturday, a Tuesday solo or jam night and a Wednesday open mic.
- happeningnext.com (opens in a new tab): Event page for Velvet Fang, a goth night with a live DJ that tells guests to get ready to dance in Katie's basement.
- eventbrite.com (opens in a new tab): Ticket page titled 'Velvet Fang - Gothic Dance Club' at Katies of Smithtown (June 2025).
- liblogger.com (opens in a new tab): Event calendar for the bar showing the weekly Tuesday jam, Wednesday open mic and Thursday karaoke.
- anthurium.band (opens in a new tab): Band bio: debuted in 2025, plays 1990s-2000s alternative and hard rock on Long Island.
- anthurium.band (opens in a new tab): Show list: a Lindenhurst fundraiser, the Deer Park food festival, 89 North in Patchogue and the Neighborhood Tavern in Farmingdale.
The score is our best guess from the venue, the band and the listing. Crowds, space and rules can change, so ask the venue if dancing matters to you. How the score works.
